EJ and site selection

Ramboll helped a client develop a template for assessing environmental justice (EJ) vulnerabilities at candidate sites.
    Challenge

The need to site data centers requires efficient and timely consideration of many environmental factors when reviewing candidate sites for selection. To expand on the due diligence and risk management process, a multinational technology company requested consideration of environmental justice (EJ) concerns as an additional review component.

    What we did

We worked with the client to develop a template used to assess EJ vulnerabilities at candidate sites. Our spreadsheet tool involves a baseline review of local, state, and regional considerations. The synthesis of information is used to inform decision-making and determine when additional, more in-depth EJ review is needed, along with recommendations on how to use the baseline data to inform project planning, mitigations, and outreach.

    The result

We continue to support the client in evaluating candidate sites for development, as well as provide permitting and compliance support for projects moving into development stages.
